Come to a practice as a guest paddler,
or schedule a session for your group; here's how...

HOW TO GET STARTED:

Are you ready to try the sport of dragon boating? We welcome guest paddlers year-round at regular team practices. You can try the sport up to THREE (3) times, then we ask that you register as a Team Paddler on one of our teams

If you are a paddler on another IDBF/USDF dragon boat team, you are welcome to paddle as our guest whenever you are visiting the Central Coast. Friends and family visiting our Team Paddlers are also welcome to join your favorite paddler on the boat.

Because boats fill up, we recommend that all of our guest SIGN UP for a practice at least 48 hours in advance. It is more likely there will be space on the boat for you if you sign up earlier.

HOW TO SIGN UP AS A GUEST PADDLER:

  1. Complete the LIABILITY WAIVER. You can choose which team you would like to paddle with (SurviveOars or Adventurers). You will get a confirmation, which you should screenshot and save. You CANNOT get on a boat until you sign the LIABILITY WAIVER.

  2. If you know a Team Paddler, ask them to sign you up for a practice as their guest, on their team's TeamSnap, and meet you there.

  3. If you do not know a Team Paddler, pick a practice time for the Practice Schedule on this website (Paddle With Us/Schedule-Location). Then e-mail the team's volunteer, and they will sign you up. For Survive Oars, registration@ccdba.org. For Adventurers, adventurers.db@gmail.com.

ON THE DAY OF THE PRACTICE:

  1. ARRIVE EARLY, at least 15 minutes before practice time, to SubSea
Tours in Morro Bay, 699 Embarcadero. Teams gather at the top of the
dock ramp, near the whale statue.

  2. You can bring a water bottle, but leave everything else in your car. Paddles and life jackets are provided. Wear clothing/shoes that can get wet.

  3. Introduce yourself to the practice coach and fill in the ‘Guest Information’ sign-in sheet. If you were not able to pre-submit your Liability Waiver at ccdba.org, try it again using your phone. If all else fails, sign a paper Liability Waiver at the dock.

HOW TO REGISTER AS A TEAM PADDLER:

You can register as a Team Paddler at any time; you are not required to ‘try it’ as a guest first. As a registered Team Paddler, you can participate in any practice, clinic, race, social paddle or other activity offered by CCDBA or your team. You will have access to your team’s TeamSnap notifications of all activities and cancellations. You will be supporting our nonprofit mission and will be part of our dragon boat community!

Choose your team: SurviveOars is open to cancer survivors and supporters (anyone who wants to support the team), all ages and genders. Adventurers is open to students, faculty, staff and alumni of Cal Poly State University and Cuesta College.

To register as a Team Paddler:

  1. Pay the annual Team Paddler Registration Fee by using the yellow Donate button on this website; on the drop-down menu, select Paddlers Registration Fee. The fees are:

Cancer Survivor: $125 per calendar year

Adult (not a cancer survivor): $175 per calendar year

Student (10 or more units): $35 per quarter

OR: mail your check to CCDBA, P.O. Box 785, Morro Bay CA 93443

   2. Complete and submit the team’s liability waiver.

NOTE: if you paddled as a guest this year, you do NOT need to submit another Liability Waiver; skip to #3.

   3. Contact the team’s registration volunteer and tell them you are registering:

SurviveOars, registration@ccdba.org;

Adventurers, adventurers.db@gmail.com .

MINORS (UNDER 18):

Minors can register as a guest and/or as a Team Paddler using the same procedure, except the minor and the parent/guardian must sign the Minor’s Liability Waiver; start with the standard Liability Waiver, and it will direct you when you check the 'under 18' box. Any minor under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult on the boat (either the parent or someone the parent designates in writing).

SCHEDULE A ‘SPECIAL PADDLE’ SESSION FOR YOUR GROUP:

Your group of 8 to 18 people is invited to schedule a ‘Special Paddle’ to try the sport of dragon boat racing! CCDBA will supply a coach, a steersperson, and all equipment. This is a great team-building experience for local clubs or businesses, or a group of friends who want to try the sport together. CCDBA requests that ‘Special Paddle’ groups make a donation to support our programs; we suggest a minimum of $10 per paddler. For more information, contact Susan at scheduling@ccdba.org.

Note: CCDBA is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Directors. There are no voting members. Registered Team Paddlers are not members of the nonprofit organization. However, there are many opportunities for paddler involvement at the team level or on board committees.
